Sample poems

This was my very first wedding poem...

Circles

It was circles that brought them together
On that hot Summer day in July
When a down to earth blonde with a brush in her hand
Met up with a like-minded guy..

They both knew that something would happen
That the fates had got something in store
Things were starting to fit in a pattern
Like they never quite had done before..
They both found they liked the same music
Foreign travel!  And fresh air! And CHEESE!
They knew if passion's there - YOU SHOULD USE  IT!
And just get with the birds and the bees..

Some say there are lines that run deep in the earth
Connecting us all to our needs
Perhaps there's a line we know nothing about
Connecting with Eynsham and Leeds?

So the down to earth blonde and the plain speaking man
Are together at last, and in love
Who knows if it's magic from Old Mother Earth
Or the sun, moon and stars up above?

It was circles that brought you together
Before even a word had been spoken
And one of the things that is certain in life
Is a circle can never be broken !

And here's a poem about changing jobs:

Leaving poem

Here's a verse about someone who's funny and clever,
born in the year of the snake -
And all about what he did next when he found
His employment had been a mistake.
He struggled so manfully year after year
And he really was proving his mettle
With some meds and a mandolin grasped in one hand
While the other was holding a kettle
And what did he get for his labour and strife?
The nickname of Cock-up Mackay!
And he thought that there must be so much more to life
And still everybody asked "WHY??"
"What is is you're lacking?
What more do you need?
What is it that you'd like to do?
And how can we better your standard of living?
It's CLEAR - you must take NVQ!"
But possessing a great deal of talent and brains
And quick-witted sharp perspicacity
He thought "cobblers to this" and "I've just had enough!!"
And  "I just need to show some tenacity!"
So he wondered and pondered while working his shifts
And he thought it was better by far
To teach people English
And then loaf about
In the sunshine, just playing guitar
So he went off to Egypt, Morocco and Spain
Just thinking, absorbing the culture
And when he got back the decision was made:
"My bosses are just bloody vultures!""
It was all so soul-sapping
He found, in the end,
It was making him physically sick..
So he's leaving the circus
for much better things
And good luck and best wishes to Nick!

Here's a poem I wrote for a special little boy on his fifth birthday

Birthday poem

Here's a funny birthday poem
That's written just to say..
The 10th of June's a special time
'Cos someones FIVE today!
So who's the lucky birthday boy?
Everyone will shout..
Well, here's some little clues for you
To help you work it out..
He has fun when he goes to school
And never think it's boring..
And loves to come back home to Mum
Who helps him with his drawing!
He has a super pirate ship
And likes to play at "Snap"
And when it comes to jigsaws
He's a really clever chap!
His favourite food is fishcakes
And his favourite car is Roary
And once he gets back home from school
It's on with Balamory!

And when he goes down to the park
The best bit is the slides..
But Kinder eggs are best of all
- 'Cos they've got TOYS inside!
He loves to play and dance and sing
And if he has the time
He likes to read a load of books
Especially nursery rhymes!
Now, have you worked this riddle out?
If not, then here's a clue..
This special little birthday poem
Was written JUST FOR YOU!
And Mum and Dad and Grandad
And Nan and Nina too
All hope you have a BRILLIANT day
That's smashing through and through!
